The story
Low strings open in C minor, dark and orchestral, with an undertow feeling built right into the harmony itself, chords that seem to pull downward even as the melody tries to rise above them. A mournful duduk motif appears almost immediately, its reed cutting a thin bright line through the low register, the first hook the ear catches and holds onto.
The mature ethereal female voice enters flowing rather than declaring, her tone airy against the weight of the strings below her, and a hint of distant choir texture sits far back in the mix, more atmosphere than melody. The pulse underneath stays steady and dark, never breaking rhythm even as the orchestration thickens gradually around it and grows heavier.
Every half minute or so a new element surfaces, a second string line, a lower pad, more air on top of the mix, while the duduk motif keeps returning in a slightly different shape each time it appears again.
