The story

The track opens already underwater. A sub-bass hum sits at 30-60Hz and just stays there, not a note so much as a pressure change in the room. Above it, pads move in long unhurried swells, detuned bells decaying into the fog. Nothing arrives fast here. The first minute is about getting used to the depth.

A hushed vocal line enters low in the mix, more breath than melody, chant syllables that repeat and mutate like a half-remembered ritual. It never rises to the front, it sits beside the drones as another texture. Sonar pings drift through occasionally, panned wide, marking distance rather than time.

Around the midpoint the shakuhachi surfaces, breathy and unstable in pitch, cutting through the muted underwater filter that softens everything else. This is the clearest sound in the piece, and it does not last. It folds back into the vocoded choir pads, and the sub-drops return heavier, landing on the downbeats like weight settling to the floor.

The last stretch thins out. Tape hiss becomes audible under the fading drones, the chant loops one more time and dissolves, and the sub-bass is the last thing left, still pressing, still there when everything else has gone quiet.

Late-night winding down, flotation or deep breathing sessions, dark-room headphone listening, or as background for still, low-light work.

Lyrics

[Intro]
in nebula... altus...
(breath)
cor tacet... lente...

[Verse]
sub nube dormit statio
chorda gravis suspirat
nihil manet infra
albedo omnia tenet

vox sine verbis natat
campana longa sonat
in profundo... echo...

[Chorus]
reverti non est quo
locus abiit iam
suspensus in aere
cor lente pulsat

[Verse]
vallis in nube mersa
tremit cabina lente
nihil manet infra
nihil nisi albedo

reverti non est quo
locus abiit iam
suspensus in aere
cor lente pulsat

altus... altus...
(breath)
campana in fundo
lente... lente...
