The story
The track opens on sub-bass alone, a pressure more felt than heard, before a detuned 808 rolls in underneath like something waking up in a cave. Bell tolls arrive soaked in reverb, spaced far apart, each one left to decay into near-silence. There is no rush here — the first minute is built entirely from tension between low frequency weight and the empty air around it.
The alphorn enters around the second minute, a single held tone that reads like a call across a canyon, distant and slightly detuned to sit inside the witchhouse haze rather than above it. Underneath, a bowed rebab scrapes in slow arcs, adding a rough, almost human friction against the glossy synth pads. The gated 80s snare shows up sparingly — soft-attack, no click — just enough to mark time without breaking the drift.
Trap hi-hat triplets flicker in occasionally, ghostly and sparse, more texture than rhythm, while reverse cymbals swell backward into each new section like a held breath released. The pads keep shifting color underneath — cold, glassy, faintly detuned — so the harmony never fully resolves, staying suspended the way the title suggests.
By the final third, the low end thickens again, the 808 sub and warm Trilian-style bass locking into a slow, groove-adjacent pulse, before everything pulls back to bell tones and open reverb tails. It ends the way it began: alone with the sub-bass and the fog.
