The story
The track opens already underwater. A sub-bass sits under everything at 30-60Hz, not pulsing but pressing, the kind of low end you feel in the chest before you notice it in the ears. Above it a rounder 60-120Hz bass moves in slow half-time steps, warm and groovy, tape-saturated so nothing feels digital or cold.
A sonar ping counts out the half-time pulse like a heartbeat searching for something in the dark. Low strings hold a narrow ostinato, low brass answers in single pulses, and a massive gong hits at the turns, its metallic shimmer stretched out through cavernous reverb until it dissolves into the low end. Highs stay muted, filtered soft, as if heard through black water.
Around the middle the pads swell, building pressure rather than volume, until a sub-drop lands on the downbeat and the whole mix seems to sink a level deeper. Detuned bells decay slowly behind the lead line, which stays expressive and unhurried, more a held breath than a melody pushing forward.
By the close the gong tolls once more, long and wide in the stereo field, and the sub-bass simply stays, refusing to lift. Nothing resolves upward. The embers keep sinking, the pressure keeps its weight, and the track ends the way it started, submerged.
