The story
Test Card is a portrait of an old television after broadcast ends, running at 104 BPM in E minor with an unstoppable motor of static-crackle percussion and a mains-hum bass throbbing like a heartbeat underneath VHS-warped pads and flickering bit-crushed arps. The atmosphere sits between broken electronics and abandoned late-night television.
The test-tone sine slowly bends and takes on hymn-like character, a vocoder turning it into a solemn wordless choir singing a four-part chorale to an empty room, sincere and oddly stately against the surrounding static. The first peak brings that chorale to full voice over the crackle groove, tremolo guitar adding a shimmering layer above the harmony.
An extended stripped mid-section follows, reducing everything back to naked static rhythm and distant hum, a screen-glow loneliness with almost nothing else present. The choir then returns transfigured, the key lifting toward G major as the second climax pushes past the first, the chorale reaching its fullest, most solemn statement before the piece fades.
