The story
At 65 BPM the piece moves slowly enough that every phrase feels considered, felt-hammer piano breathing in and out against legato minor strings. A spiraling lydian motif climbs by thirds on Rhodes, returning transformed each time it resurfaces, sometimes brighter, sometimes pulled down into a darker voicing. Dominant sub-bass gives the slow tempo real physical weight beneath the fragility above it.
A cathedral pipe organ drone enters underneath like pressure building in a large room, its low pedal tone barely moving while everything else drifts around it. Bowed cello adds depth in the middle register, and fretless bass slides in with a warm, mwah-toned line reminiscent of Pino Palladino's playing, gliding rather than plucking through the changes.
Glassy string harmonics catch the light at the edges of the mix, thin and trembling against the organ's weight, which is where the track's suspended fear comes from, luxury and unease sitting in the same chord. The arrangement blooms slowly across its four minutes, each section a little fuller than the last, before settling back toward the quiet Rhodes phrase it began with.
