The story

The track opens low, a sub-bass hum sitting under 60Hz before anything else arrives, like pressure in the room before a storm. Mellotron choir fades in behind it, ghostly and unfocused, while a thin accordion line breathes in and out. There is no percussion yet, just weight and air.

Around the first minute a half-time beat enters, soft-attack and rounded, more felt than heard. The Oberheim pad thickens the middle, minor7 chords stacked wide, and a detuned saw lead starts tracing a melody that never quite resolves. A whispered vocalise drifts in low in the mix, more texture than voice, repeating a short phrase like a chant.

The middle stretch is where the layers breathe against each other, accordion wheezing against the choir, sub-bass rolling underneath in slow round waves. Reverb tails stretch longer here, pads shimmering into near-silence before the next chord catches them. It feels like watching rain move across a window, patterns changing without ever speeding up.

By the final minute the beat thins out again, leaving mellotron and accordion to close things down together. The bass fades last, a long low exhale under the fading choir. Nothing resolves cleanly, the piece just settles, like the rain outside slowing rather than stopping.

Late-night drives in the rain, winding down after a long shift, background for reading or writing, or quiet headphone listening before sleep.
