The story

It opens on almost nothing: a low drone sitting under 60Hz, felt more than heard, and a felt piano figure that seems to be remembering something rather than playing it. The room around it is enormous. Every note gets swallowed by hall reverb before the next one arrives, so the piano feels like it's already a memory of itself before it finishes ringing.

Around the ninety-second mark the mellotron choir fades in underneath, ghostly and slightly detuned, joined by a vocoded chant that never resolves into words. This is where the shoegaze wall enters too, a wash of reverb-soaked texture that blurs the edges of everything, like fog rolling across the frame. The bass stays constant and warm beneath it, holding the low end steady while the top stays soft and grainy.

The centerpiece is the violin solo, entering alone in the middle third, bowed slow and legato with real breath in the phrasing. An alphorn answers it once, distant and open, like a call across a valley nobody else is standing in. Harp glissandi fall through the mix like light through a broken shutter. Nothing rushes. The drums are barely there, just a soft pulse to keep time honest.

In the final minute the layers thin back out, the choir and chant receding first, then the strings, until only the piano and that same low hum remain, quieter than where it started. It doesn't resolve so much as it stops being played, the way a reel runs out mid-frame and the light keeps burning on an empty screen.

Late train rides home, empty movie theaters after credits, working alone past midnight, or falling asleep with the window open in autumn.
